Electricity production and the energy sector play an important role in the development of the Georgian economy, all branches of the economy are directly related to the success of the energy sector, Levan Davitashvili, Georgian Economy Minister said on Saturday at a dedicated event celebrating the Energy Workers Day.

Davitashvili congratulated the energy workers on their professional day and thanked them for their contribution to the development of the Georgian economy, while “traditionally” awarding meritorious and veteran workers with a certificate of appreciation.

We are in a very important stage and era of the country's development and transformation, the new history of Georgia began like this in the 19th century, when the father of the nation, Ilia Chavchavadze, connected the country's development with the introduction of technologies, and among them, the first power plant was built in Tbilisi on his initiative. [...] Today, we are talking about a new era, digital transformation, innovation and technology, and in this regard, of course, the development of competitive electricity production in the country and of the sector as a whole remains vital”, Davitashvili said.

The Economy Minister also highlighted a “number of outstanding” projects, implemented by the Georgian Government, including the modern Gardabani thermal power plant, as well as other sustainable and renewable energy projects, and added that with the “professionalism” of energy workers, the Government would implement “far more” important projects.

Romeo Mikutadze, the Deputy Economy Minister, also made a presentation on the current and planned events and projects in the field and introduced the development strategy of the country's energy sector as a whole.
