The Georgian State Security Service on Friday said “everything” was being done, through joint efforts with international partners, to return Georgian citizen Kristine Takalandze to her family, who had been illegally arrested by the Russian occupation forces in the occupied Abkhazia region in 2022.

The Service noted “from the very first day” of Takalandze’s illegal imprisonment, who was sentenced to ten years and six months, “the central Government has been using all available mechanisms” and stressed the issue was an “important component” of the international partners’ agenda.

Regarding the violent and illegal actions carried out by the occupation regime against Kristine Takalandze, the international community has repeatedly expressed a consolidated position and condemned the criminal practice that is deliberately established in the occupied territories of Georgia”, the state body said.

The occupation regime bears “full responsibility” for the “destructive actions” carried out in the regions and along the administrative line, the SSS stressed.
