Russian occupation forces have illegally arrested Georgian citizen Kristine Takalandze in the occupied Abkhazia region, the Georgian State Security Service confirmed on Monday.
Following the arrest, the Security Service activated the European Union Monitoring Mission hotline. International partners, including the co-chairs of the Geneva International Discussions, have also been informed about the case.
The statement noted that the central government of Georgia was using “all available mechanisms” to ensure an immediate release of the illegally arrested individual.
Local Georgian media outlet Netgazeti on Tuesday said the de facto Security Service of Russian-occupied Abkhazia illegally arrested Georgian citizen on July 20 and alleged Talakandze in delivering "state, military and other information protected by law" to the Georgian special services.
Netgazeti also said Takalandze was the resident of the Nabakevi village of the Russian-occupied Gali district.
Georgian State Security Service officials demanded “unconditional release” of Georgian citizens illegally arrested by Russian occupation forces at the 105th Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) meeting, the platform facilitating talks between Georgian agencies and the de-facto authorities in the occupied regions of the country.
The de facto police of Georgia’s Russian-occupied Abkhazia region have summoned a 19-year-old Aliona Tania living in the region and her parents for interrogation after the girl said on her TikTok account that ‘Abkhazia is Georgia.’
Irakli Bebua, an ethnic Georgian man living in the Gali district of Georgia’s Russian-occupied Abkhazia region, has been sentenced to nine years in prison for burning the flag of Abkhazia and the possession of firearms.
A 65-year-old man from Russian-occupied Abkhazia has been found dead by locals in the Enguri River. Municipal head Elguja Bokuchava said the man was trying to cross to Tbilisi-controlled territory to receive his pension.
Levan Machabeli, a 35-year-old former Georgian servicemember who was illegally detained by the Russian occupation forces near the country's occupied Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) region in March, was released late on Wednesday, the Georgian State Security Service said.
The Georgian State Security Service on Friday said “everything” was being done, through joint efforts with international partners, to return Georgian citizen Kristine Takalandze to her family, who had been illegally arrested by the Russian occupation forces in the occupied Abkhazia region in 2022.
