Georgian citizens over the age of 50, individuals with chronic diseases and high-risk groups will be given a third dose (booster shot) of the Covid-19 vaccine, Georgian Deputy Health Minister Tamar Gabunia announced earlier today.
Individuals of any age with chronic diseases, people at high-risk jobs, including doctors, people living in closed facilities and those employed in such facilities will be given a third dose of the Covid-19 vaccine six months after the second dose of the vaccine”, said Gabunia.
Head of the Pediatric Department of the Iashvili Children’s Clinic and member of the Immunisation Council Ivane Chkaidze said if an individual vaccinated with Sinopharm/Sinovac plans to go abroad, at least 28 days must have passed since the previous vaccine for him/her to receive the booster dose”, said Chkhaidze.
Chkhaidze also noted that individuals vaccinated with two doses of AstraZeneca vaccine don’t need a booster dose.
Just three days after public and private kindergartens resumed operations across Georgia, 14 of them have already closed due to confirmed Covid-19 cases. The closed kindergartens will resume operations on October 18, announces the Kindergarten Management Agency of Tbilisi.
Georgia has reported 2,228 new cases of coronavirus, 1,711 recoveries and 28 deaths in the past 24 hours. The positivity rate has gone up to 7.0% of tested individuals for Covid-19 as of October 6 in comparison to 5.63% of the last two weeks.
A total of 8,106 people have been vaccinated in the past 24 hours in Georgia while the target of the Georgian government is to vaccinate 30,000 people daily to reach its vaccination goal of 60 per cent of the country population by the end of this year. The vaccination rate began to decline several weeks ago and less than 10,000 vaccinations have been administered daily since the start of October.

Georgia has reported 2,661 new cases of coronavirus, 1,274 recoveries and 30 deaths in the past 24 hours. The positivity rate has gone up to 7.22% of tested individuals for Covid-19 as of October 7 in comparison to 5.70% of the last two weeks. In total, 36,840 tests have been conducted around the country of which 22,119 were rapid tests, while the remaining 14,721 were PCR tests.
Georgia has reported 2,844 new cases of Covid-19 after conducting a total of 38,042 tests over the last 24 hours. Out of the 2,844 new cases 775 were reported in Tbilisi. Meanwhile, 814 individuals have recovered and 29 infected patients have died.

Vaccination against flu for pregnant women, patients on dialysis and doctors will start this week in Georgia, Head of the National Centre for Disease Control Amiran Gamkrelidze said today.
Georgian citizens vaccinated with either the Chinese Sinovac or Sinopharm vaccine can now receive an additional shot of the Pfizer vaccine for travel purposes starting today. If an individual wants to go abroad for travel, study or medical treatment, at least 28 days must have passed since receiving the second shot of the Chinese vaccine to get the Pfizer jab, the new decree of the Georgian Health Ministry reads.

The government of Latvia has donated a total of 83,070 doses of the Pfizer vaccine to Georgia. As of now, 322,903 doses of the Pfizer vaccine are available in Georgia. Those, willing to get vaccinated, should visit the health ministry website booking.moh.gov.ge and choose the vaccine they prefer and are eligible for.
Georgia has reported a total of 4,581 new cases of Covid-19 after conducting 21,271 PCR tests and 24,852 rapid tests over the last 24 hours. Out of the 4,581 new cases 1,525 were reported in Tbilisi.

Citizens have allegedly been given Vitamin C injections instead of flu shots at Gogelia clinic in Tbilisi. People at the clinic claim that they were not shown the vaccine vials before being injected, but were asked to pay 75 GEL in advance.
