COVID update shows 10 new cases in Georgia

Georgia has reported 10 new cases of COVID-19 infections on Sunday, with the number of active cases sitting at 114.

The latest update brought the number of total confirmed cases since the start of the outbreak in the spring from 1018 to 1028.

The number of fatal outcomes remains unchanged at 15, as does the figure of Georgian citizens transported from beyond borders for treatment in the country, which is at 41.

Up to this date, 899 patients have recovered from the virus in Georgia.

10 more Georgian soldiers test positive for coronavirus in Afghanistan

Ten more Georgian soldiers have tested positive for the coronavirus in Afghanistan and have been transported home to Georgia by the German Air Force earlier today. Twenty-eight other Georgian soldiers in the NATO Resolute Support Mission tested positive for the virus on July 10. Eight of the 28 soldiers, who underwent treatment in Gori hospital of central Georgia, have already recovered. The Georgian Defence Ministry says that all the 38 soldiers belong to one cluster that an Afghan personnel was the source of the infection.

Georgia remains on EU Council's updated list of countries for which travel restrictions should be lifted

The Council of the European Union has updated the list of countries to which the travel restrictions should be gradually lifted and the list still includes Georgia. The criteria to determine third countries for which current travel restrictions should be lifted cover in particular the epidemiological situation and containment measures, including social distancing, as well as economic and social considerations.

Georgia reports 2 new cases of coronavirus, 108 remain infected with COVID-19

Georgia has reported just two new cases of the coronavirus earlier today, bringing the total number of cases to 1,006. 883 of the 1,006 patients have recovered, while 15 others have died. As of today 108 people remain infected with COVID-19 in Georgia. Georgia reported its first case of the coronavirus on February 26, 2020. Since then more than 156,000 people have been tested for the coronavirus inside the country. Georgia will open borders unconditionally for Germany, France, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia starting August.

Inhabitants of villages in east Georgia to undergo mandatory PCR testing for COVID-19

The inhabitants of Karajala and Karataklia villages in Gardabani municipality will undergo mandatory PCR (polymerase chain reaction) testing for the coronavirus, as 23 inhabitants of the villages have tested positive for the virus over the last 24 hours.

Georgia reports 19 new cases of coronavirus, one village placed under quarantine

Georgia has reported 19 new cases of the coronavirus earlier today, many of the new cases were reported in Gardabani municipality of eastern Georgia. The government of Georgia has placed the Karajalari village of Gardabani municipality under quarantine earlier today to prevent the further spread of the virus. Roads to and from the village have been blocked by police and drones are being used to monitor the area. About 1,000 locals of Karajalari village have already been tested for the coronavirus. The Georgian National Centre for Disease Control has begun mass testing of people for the coronavirus at Lilo open market in the outskirts of Tbilisi where many Gardabani inhabitants work as vendors.
