Luxembourg grants ‘safe country’ status to Georgia

Luxembourg has added Georgia to its list of safe countries.
The local immigration service has studied the current situation in Georgia and determined that the county meets all necessary preconditions for being defined as safe.
According to the immigration service of Luxemburg, human rights are being protected in Georgia and the country ensures equality among citizens regardless of their race, religion, ethnicity, social identity or political ideology.

The immigration service also believes that international organisations working on human rights issues in Georgia have the opportunity to freely carry out their activities without any obstacles or intereference.
Luxemburg is the 7th European country that has granted Georgia the status of a safe country following Belgium, Netherlands, France, Bulgaria, Austria and Iceland.
Germany is discussing the issue of listing Georgia in the category of safe countries, Georgia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced.
Georgia is among the safest countries in the world in the latest travel advisory for United States (US) travellers published by the US State Department.
Georgia has been ranked the seventh safest country in the world by global database Numbeo.
Belgium has reviewed its asylum system and for the first time awarded Georgia the status of ‘Safe Country of Origin’, meaning Georgia is now regarded as a safe country and it meets top international standards of law and judicial requirements.
Georgia has very firm support from Luxembourg for its European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations, Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze said at a joint press conference with the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Luxembourg Jean Asselborn.
