Georgia’s high mountainous regions will receive gas supply thanks to new memorandum signed today between SOCAR Energy Georgia and Georgia’s Ministry of Economy.
The memorandum is part of the ‘green initiative’ that the Georgian government has been implementing in Georgia and envisages providing gas supply to Georgian highlands through virtual gas pipeline technology.
This is a method of transporting natural gas in the form of compressed natural gas to consumers living in highland areas.
SOCAR has already implemented a similar project in Georgia’s resort area of Sairme, which is located 950 meters above sea level in western Georgia.
If we had followed the standard gasification process in Sairme, we would have to spend eight times more financial resources on it. The virtual gas pipeline method is much more cost efficient and economically beneficial”, said Mahir Mammadov, general director of SOCAR.
Mammadov added that this technology would help to reduce tree felling in Georgia’s high mountainous regions.
SOCAR Georgia Gas LLC collects and distributes natural gas to the regions of Georgia and operates local a gas distribution network serving more than 670,000 subscribers.
