Georgian film director Ana Urushadze’s Scary Mother has been named among the ten of the best arthouse films of 2017.
In its introduction to Urushadze’s film, AnOther Magazine said it is "the wildly imaginative and surrealistic debut feature” from 27-year-old director, "who has been scooping awards” in various film festivals.

The film script follows a Georgian housewife Manana who finally takes up her dream of writing, years after initially shelving the idea in favour of taking care of household work.

As the protagonist of the story begins reading her first published book to family members, she realises her fears of negative reception from relatives are becoming a reality.
Manana (Nato Murvanidze) who lives in a Brutalist tower block in Tbilisi is dead set on getting an erotic vampire novel she has penned published, despite her husband’s disapproval”, AnOther Magazine notes.
Having received various international awards, Urushadze’s film premiered in Georgian capital of Tbilisi in December.
Scary Mother will be Georgia’s bid to compete in next year's prestigious Academy Awards - Oscar in the Foreign Language category.
