Charlie Flanagan, the Chair of the Irish Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence, on Tuesday said the future of Georgia lay “firmly” in the “European Union family”.
The comment came following Flanagan’s meeting with his Georgian counterparts on their visit to Ireland.

The official of the Irish Parliament also acknowledged Georgia’s “wide-ranging” reform programme for ensuring European integration was “well underway”.

The cooperation between Georgia and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and the agenda of democratic reforms carried out in the country were discussed on Tuesday in a meeting between the Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and Co-rapporteurs of the PACE Monitoring Committee.
Mamuka Mdinaradze, the Executive Secretary of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Thursday claimed the plan of the opposition United National Movement party was to ensure the country did not receive the European Union membership candidate status and use the outcome to replace the Government.
Nikoloz Samkharadze, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Foreign Relations Committee, on Thursday said the “only path” of ensuring Georgia's sovereignty and independence ran through the country’s membership in the European Union and NATO.
Maka Botchorishvili, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament's European Union Integration Committee, on Monday said the country “definitely” deserved the European Union membership candidate status but noted it was a “political decision that must be made by the [bloc’s] 27 member states”.
Bilateral relations and cooperation between Georgian and Danish legislative bodies were discussed on Wednesday in a meeting between chairs of committees of the Georgian Parliament and the Speaker of the Danish Parliament Søren Gade.
