Georgian defence minister Juansher Burchuladze on Thursday featured in the South-Eastern Defence Ministerial in Bulgaria’s capital Sofia that discussed regional security issues, Russia’s occupation of parts of Ukraine and Georgia, and cooperation between member states.

The Georgian defence ministry said the forum aimed to consolidate cooperation among regional countries to promote peace and security in the region, as well as support Euro-Atlantic integration of aspiring countries.

The SEDM involves Albania, Bulgaria, Croatia,  North Macedonia, Greece, Italy, Romania, Slovenia, Turkey, Ukraine, the United States, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro. Moldova is an observer nation. Georgia joined in 2015 and received the observer status the next year.

Within his visit to Bulgaria, Burchuladze will also meet his Bulgarian and Romanian counterparts to discuss questions of cooperation.
