Irakli Kadagishvili, the Chairman of the Rules and Procedural Issues Committee of the Parliament of Georgia, on Tuesday called on the domestic opposition to “abandon” its “revolutionary scenario”, recognise the results of the recent elections and stop using “political slogans that torpedo the political process” in the country.

Kadagishvili stressed the necessity of having a “negotiating environment” between the Government and the opposition for the objective of ensuring a “normal” domestic political process and consensus.

[I call on you to] [a]bandon the revolutionary scenario, recognise the elections and stop using political slogans that torpedo the political process. In order to conduct a normal political process, you basically need a negotiating environment between the Government and the opposition - a consensus cannot be reached otherwise”, the Parliament official said in his statement.

Kadagishvili also proposed to members of the Parliamentary opposition to become engaged in the ruling party’s work for fulfilling the 12-point conditions outlined by the European Union for granting the country the membership candidate status later this year.

We propose to the opposition to come and talk meaningfully about each issue. They have never wanted to engage into any positive process, nor will they want it in the future. It's sad, but it's true. [...] They have no hope that they will come to power through elections - that is why they always reserve the path for destruction and revolution”, he concluded in his comments.
