Hungary’s PM vows support for Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic integration

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban on Friday congratulated his Georgian counterpart on Independence Day, which was marked on Thursday, stressing his country supported Georgia's Euro-Atlantic integration.
In his congratulatory letter, Orban underlined the “friendly relationship" based on "mutual respect and appreciation" between the states, which he said had led to “successful cooperation”.
I am confident that new prospects will open up for the expansion of bilateral relations in the future. I can assure you that Hungary supports the further development of our loyal partnership and Georgia's Euro-Atlantic integration,” the official letter said.
The joint Delegation of Canada to NATO on Friday said the country “strongly supported” Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic integration, including eventual membership in NATO.
Political leaders from Georgia’s partner countries on Thursday congratulated citizens of the state on its Independence Day, vowing support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and wishing the Georgian people happiness and prosperity.
United States President Joe Biden on Thursday extended his congratulations of Georgia’s Independence Day to Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and citizens of the country.
French President Emmanuel Macron on Thursday extended his congratulations to the Georgian people on the occasion of Independence Day and wished them “happiness, prosperity and peace.”
Maka Botchorishvili, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s European Union Integration Committee, on Monday said the Government was “doing its best” for European Union member states to make the “decision that Georgia needs” on its EU membership bid.
Lorinc Nacsa, a member of Parliament in the National Assembly of Hungary, said on Wednesday Hungary would support granting Georgia and Bosnia-Herzegovina the European Union membership candidate status alongside Ukraine and Moldova.
The European Union’s decision of not granting the membership candidate status to Georgia “contradicts the tasks of strengthening” the bloc, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said on Friday in a press briefing with his Georgian counterpart Ilia Darchiasvhili in Tbilisi.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán on Thursday said his Government was “very disappointed and angry” at the European Council’s 2022 decision not to grant Georgia its membership candidate status while granting it to the countries that were “far behind” in terms of their qualifications.
