airBaltic, the flag carrier of Latvia, is resuming Riga-Tbilisi-Riga flights starting March 28, announces the Georgian Civil Aviation Agency.
Flights will be carried out twice a week - on Mondays and on Thursdays - while from May 2020 the flight frequency will be increased to four flights in a week and the fourth flight will be carried out on Saturdays.
The Georgian Civil Aviation Agency has already granted a permit to airBaltic to resume flights.
International flights resumed in Georgia on February 1 and all airline companies that have already operated or plan to enter the country's aviation market in the future are able to operate regular flights.
European aviation closed out 2020 with 6.1 million fewer flights operated and over half the aircraft in Europe grounded, says Eurocontrol in its newly published paper called ‘What COVID-19 did to European Aviation in 2020, and Outlook 2021’ noting that Georgia’s air traffic decreased the most amongst European states.
Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air, Latvian flag carrier AirBaltic and Georgian Airways have made changes to their flight schedules amid the coronavirus pandemic. Georgia intends to restore more direct flights to Europe starting November, said Georgian PM Giorgi Gakharia earlier today.
Lufthansa is increasing its existing flight frequency as well as adding new destinations to and from Georgia, announces Georgian Economy Minister Natia Turnava. She said that Lufthansa is adding Frankfurt-Tbilisi-Baku flights and starting July 1 the flights will be carried out four times a week - on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays.
Kutaisi International Airport in the western Georgian region of Imereti has welcomed travellers from Vilnius, Lithuania for the very first time since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic. The flight was carried out by the Hungarian low cost airline Wizz Air earlier today.
Georgia is easing regulations for international travellers to enter the country as well as for the citizens of Georgia who are returning to the country from abroad. When coming to Georgia foreign visitors must present at the border a document that proves that he/she underwent a complete course of coronavirus vaccination. Citizens of all foreign countries who are vaccinated will be able to enter Georgia.
