Georgian citizen Malkhaz Doluashvili, who was illegally detained in the Russian-occupied Georgian region of Tskhinvali, has been released. '
De facto officials handed over Doluashvili to Georgian police at the Ergneti checkpoint in Gori Municipality close to the occupied Tskhinvali region earlier today.
Doluashvili, 60, was illegally detained near Bershueti village when he lost orientation while hunting and found himself on the occupied territory on February 27.
De facto security committee has meanwhile reported that as Doluashvili did not intentionally ‘violate the border’, he was released without paying a fine.
The State Security Service of Georgia has previously stated that the European Union Monitoring Mission (EUMM) was informed and its hotline - ‘immediately activated’.
The illegal detention of Georgian citizens is a common issue near the occupation line. Detainees are usually released once their family pays a fine.
Genadi Bestaev, illegally detained by the Russian occupation forces in November 2019 for 'illegally crossing the border and possession of drugs', has been sentenced to three years in prison by the so-called Tskhinvali court, reports the State Security Service of Georgia.
The occupying forces of the Russian Federation stationed in the occupied Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) region have started illegal military exercises on the ground. Local media reports that the exercises began on February 19 with the training of snipers on mountainous terrain and artillery training is already underway in recent days on the ground.
Georgian citizen Genadi Bestaev, 51, who was illegally detained and then convicted by Russian-controlled occupation forces near his home back in 2019, is now in coma after having a stroke in Tskhinvali prison on November 15 and only after the de facto government of Tskhinvali accepted his transportation to the Tbilisi-controlled territory.
