Employees of Georgian Water and Power (GWP), one of the leading water supplier companies in the South Caucasus, have gone on strike complaining about working conditions and demanding an increase in salaries. The employees on strike told Formula TV that they don’t have health insurance and the company management does not allow them to use free vacation provided by the Labor Code.

Several employees said that they will not continue working if the company does not meet their requirements.

Our job is time consuming and we want appropriate compensation. The management team told us that if we [employees of the company] don’t want to work, we should leave the area of the company office and continue striking outside the yard”, one of the employees of GWP told Formula TV.

The striking employees of the company told FormulaTV that they received a short text message from GWP’s management team on January 25, which reads that they will be fired from the company if they do not stop protesting and continue working on January 26.

Later after the incident, GWP said that the striking employees are violating the terms of their contracts, as some of them have refused to work two days ago.

On the one hand, they [the striking individuals] do not perform their duties without warning. On the other hand, they hinder other employees from doing their job”, reads an official statement of GWP.

The statement of GWP also reads that the company management will use maximum effort to defuse the current situation and resolve the problematic issues in an optimal way.
