The Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB) will broadcast live lessons for school children starting March 30 amid the coronavirus outbreak in Georgia.

The Georgian government stated yesterday that schools around the country and high educational institutions will remain closed until April 21 to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Prime Minister Gakaharia commented on the decision:

A state of emergency has been declared until April 21. There is a chance that the schools will be open at the end of April, though, also there is a chance that the education process will not start soon. The Ministry of Education has taken some steps to improve the online learning process. They are cooperating with the GPB and lessons for high school students will start on March 30”, said Gakharia.

Gakharia mentioned that not all Georgian citizens have access to the internet and that is why the Ministry of Education has made the decision to broadcast lessons via the GPB for school children.

Sixty-six cases of coronavirus have been reported in Georgia starting February 26, 2020. Nine of the 66 have recovered.

No deaths have been reported in Georgia so far.
