The EU Council has prolonged the mandate of the European Union monitoring mission in Georgia (EUMM) until December 14, 2022.
EUMM announced on Friday that the decision follows a strategic review of the mission by the Political and Security Committee.
EUMM Head Marek Szczygiel has tweeted:
On 3 December 2020, @EUCouncil prolonged the mandate of @EUMMGeorgia until 14 December 2022. It also allocated a budget of €44.8 million for the period of next 2 years. https://t.co/pS1lx7sJx5

UMM Georgia is the only foreign mission in the country which monitors the occupation lines at the two Russia-occupied Georgian regions of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia).
EUMM Georgia was deployed in September 2008 following the EU-mediated Six Point Agreement which ended the August war between Russia and Georgia to contribute 'to stabilisation, normalisation and confidence building between the conflict parties'.
EUMM Georgia has headquarters in Tbilisi, as well as field offices in Gori, Mtskheta and Zugdidi. It is currently led by Ambassador Marek Szczygieł.
