European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi has underlined ‘the need for cross-party dialogue’ during a phone talk with Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia earlier today.
Varhelyi also stated after the meeting that European Union ‘stands by Georgia and its people, providing support, including for economic recovery’.

During the phone talk Gakharia and Varhelyi discussed the challenges of the pandemic and the importance of EU assistance to Georgia to overcome the negative impact of the coronavirus.
Speaking of the recent elections in Georgia they stressed the importance of convening the new convocation of parliament 'timely and fully' to ensure the further democratic development of the country.

Gakharia’s press office reported that during the phone talk they also discussed the country's progress on the path to European integration as well as the Georgian reforms that have made the country ‘a regional leader’.
It was again noted that Georgia is the leader of the Eastern Partnership (EaP) and that the country has an important role in the wider Black Sea region.
