Facemasks mandatory in open public areas in Georgia starting Nov. 4

Wearing face masks in open public areas will become mandatory around the country starting tomorrow to prevent the further spread of coronavirus, Vice Prime Minister Maia Tskitishvili stated earlier today. 

If one refuses to wear a face mask in open areas, individuals will be fined 20 GEL. 

Wearing a face mask was mandatory only in closed public areas up until now. 

Tskitishvili also said that restaurants around the country will work until 22:00. 

Online school studies will continue in Tbilisi, Rustavi, Kutaisi, Telavi, Zugdidi, Zestafoni, Gori, Marneuli and Gardabani. 

Tskitishvili said that the government has no plans to declare a nationwide lockdown, ‘only local restrictions may be imposed.’ 

Georgia has reported 1,943 new cases of coronavirus, 1,833 recoveries and  20 deaths in the past 24 hours. 

Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia and head of the Administration of the Government of Georgia Natia Mezvrishvili have tested positive for coronavirus. 

Tskitishvili said that Gakharia continues work from home.
