Georgian hazelnuts exports up 50% as of October 18

Georgia has exported 7,007 tonnes of hazelnuts between August 1 and October 18, which is a 50 per cent increase compared to the same period of 2019, announces Georgian Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection.
The exports generated more than $37.6 million in revenue, marking a $13.9 million increase compared to the same period of 2019.
The ministry says that Georgian hazelnuts were exported to these EU countries:
- Germany (2,145 tonnes)
- Italy (1,307 tonnes)
- Czechia (404 tonnes)
- Poland (254 tonnes)
- Bulgaria (220 tonnes)
- Lithuania (182 tonnes)
- France (169 tonnes)
- Spain (165 tonnes)
- Greece (97 tonnes)
- Estonia (66 tonnes)
- Latvia (62 tonnes)
- Austria (22 tonnes)
- Slovakia (15 tonnes)
- Croatia (10 tonnes)
Also, the export of Georgian hazelnuts was made to these countries as well:
- Russia (376 tonnes)
- Armenia (356 tonnes)
- Belarus (175 tonnes)
- Ukraine (148 tonnes)
- Algeria (148 tonnes)
- Brazil (136 tonnes)
- Canada (89 tonnes)

Georgia exported locally produced goods worth $2.40 billion in January-September 2020, which is 12.1 per cent lower year-on-year, announces the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).

The European Union (EU) is simplifying the export procedures for Georgian hazelnuts as a result of an increased confidence in the quality of Georgian hazelnuts and an effective policy of state control, announces the National Food Agency of Georgia.
Swiss chocolate producer Camille Bloch, which made a 40 million GEL investment in the Kakheti region of Georgia and planted hazelnut orchards on 50 ha of land, expects its first hazelnut harvest by 2025. Hazelnuts harvested in Georgia will be used for Camille Bloch’s famous chocolates.
