Georgia raises pay for coronavirus healthcare workers by 50%

The government of Georgia has decided to support healthcare workers assisting in the fight against coronavirus by increasing their salaries by 50 per cent, announces Georgian Health Minister Ekaterine Tikaradze.
Today we have made an important decision that applies to doctors who are involved in the management of Covid-19. A decree will be issued today, according to which all doctors involved in the process will have a 50 per cent supplement to the salary they have today in hourly pay", Tikaradze said.
Today Georgia reported 508 new cases of coronavirus.
Georgia has reported 508 new cases of the coronavirus earlier today. 259 of the 508 new cases were recorded in the coastal Adjara region, while 111 were recorded in Tbilisi. Four individuals have died of Covid-19 in the country in the past 24 hours - two in Adjara region, one in Terjola municipality and one in Tbilisi. The patients who have died of the virus were elderly individuals with underlying illness.
Seven of 988 people tested for coronavirus at a pop up testing centre at the Tbilisi House of Justice were positive.
Georgia has reported 549 new cases of the coronavirus, 268 recoveries and four deaths in the past 24 hours. Three of the four new deaths were recorded in Georgia’s coastal Adjara region. All the individuals who have died of Covid-19 in the past 24 hours suffered from underlying illnesses. 55 patients are in critical condition around the country. Germany has declared Georgia, Jordan, Romania and Tunisia as coronavirus risk regions, meaning that the individuals entering from these countries will have to enter quarantine pending a negative coronavirus test, Reuters reports.
