Tbilisi Municipal Inspection has started dismantling several illegally constructed residential buildings in Nadzaladevi district in Tbilisi centre, which has led to a confrontation between the local population and law enforcers. One individual has been detained for disobeying the lawful order of a police officer.

Several families have gathered at the site, expressing their protest regarding the deconstruction. They say that Tbilisi City Hall has not warned them about the  decision of the municipal inspection.

They also told the media that they applied to the City Hall for a permit to start construction of residential buildings, which was not approved, though they started construction works anyway.

Citizens also said that they had been taking care of the area for 30-40 years and demanded the land be legalized in their name on several occasions, but in vain.

As the residential buildings were constructed in a recreation zone without any permission, Tbilisi Municipal Inspection has to dismantle them, reads an official statement released by the municipal inspection.

Residents of the area told the media that they have no home anywhere else.
