Today Georgia remembers the people who died while Soviet troops dispersed a peaceful rally in support of Georgian independence in Tbilisi on April 9, 1989.
Earlier today, family of victims, ordinary citizens and officials gathered at the April 9 memorial.

At least 20 were killed in the dispersal of the demonstration that took place 30 years ago today.
Many of those were in between the ages of 16 and 31.
