Georgia and Hungary signed four deals during 16th Batumi International Conference held in relation to the 10th anniversary of Eastern Partnership today.
Georgian Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani and Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto, as well as other Georgian and Hungarian officials, concluded deals on responding to emergency situations, teaching Hungarian in Georgia, agricultural development in addition to a deal on cooperation between the Georgian Partnership Fund and the Hungarian Export-Import Bank.
The Batumi 16th International Conference, dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the EU’s Eastern Partnership initiative opened this morning with an ‘unprecedented number’ of foreign guests including European Council President Donald Tusk, Georgian Foreign Ministry reported.
ON the sidelines of the conference the European Union and the Government of Georgia also signed a €28 million deal to support security sector reforms in Georgia.
‘We are in search of new opportunities in Georgia’
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is in search of new opportunities to further increase its support in 2019, said the Vice-President of the EBRD Pierre Heilbronn at the 16th Batumi International Conference.
“When I say Georgia, I mean freedom, when I say Georgia, I mean pride, when I say Georgia, I mean courage. You are a small country, but a great nation. You have achieved impossible things, because you were, despite all the differences, united around a common goal, that was a free, independent and modern state,” Tusk stated.
The European Union and the government of Georgia have signed a €28 million deal to support security sector reforms in Georgia on the sidelines of the 16th Batumi International Conference.

President of Hungary János Áder has arrived to Georgia on his first official visit. He will meet his Georgian counterpart President Salome Zurabishvili tomorrow. However, today he was welcomed by Georgian foreign ministry officials at Tbilisi International Airport.

Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto will visit Grotgia tomorrow, on July 6.Szijjarto will be the first foreign official to visit Georgia after the lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic.
