Georgia has been granted extra regional observer status in the Central American Integration System (SICA) – an important regional political and economic organization created in 1991 for regional peace, democracy, political freedom and economic development.

With the status, Georgia will share its experience against corruption and organised crime with the eight member countries of the organisation, as well as give advice about how to develop electronic governance and public services.

The Georgian Foreign Ministry says that the new status will help Georgia raise awareness of the country in the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean Sea.

Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Belize and the Dominican Republic are members of SICA.
