Georgia saddened by OSCE member death in eastern Ukraine

The Georgian Foreign Ministry expresses its "deepest and heartfelt condolences” to the family and loved once of the US citizen serving as an international monitor in the conflict zone in Ukraine who was killed on April 23.

The comments came after the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) said a member of its monitoring staff was killed and two more were injured after their vehicle hit a mine in eastern Ukraine in an area controlled by Russia-backed separatists.

Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze took to Tweeter to express his condolences.

The killed peacekeeper was servicing as a paramedic.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and the loved ones of the deceased. We also wish a speedy recovery to those, who have been injured during this incident”, the ministry said.

It added that it hopes for the "full, transparent and timely” investigation of the incident.
