Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Davit Dondua introduced the diplomatic corps to the recent developments in the Russian occupied regions of Georgia, Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia).

Dondua told the ambassadors how Georgians living on the Abhazian territory are facing ethnic discrimination as the de-facto officials have decided to give resident permits to them - a type of a document that is usually given to foreigners or immigrants.

Talking about the recent developments along the occupation line, Dondua said the human rights situation in Abkhazia and Tskhinvali has been grossly violated as the Russian occupation forces keep on illegally placing new so-called border signs.

Last week Russian occupation forces deployed in central Georgia have moved the occupation line further into Georgian territory. This step saw about 10 more hectares of Georgian soil in the heart of the country now become occupied by Russia.

Thanking foreign diplomats for their support towards Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, Deputy Foreign Minister Dondua said the Government of Georgia is doing their best to peacefully solve the conflict.
