Georgia is launching a new project Safe City, Safe Region, Safe Country to better prevent and react to crime in real-time using modern approaches and technologies.
Soon CCTV cameras (closed circuit television, also called video surveillance) will be installed in certain places throughout the county to monitor at-risk areas as a way to prevent and deter crime, ensure prompt reaction and response to incidences, support quick identification of offenders and obtain evidence.
Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs said the cameras will be equipped with special analytical programs that allows authorities to monitor the cameras in real-time.
The Ministry explained it was important to increase the role of high technologies in police activities so police can better serve the people of Georgia, hence the launch of the new project Safe City, Safe Region, Safe Country, that included installation of smart cameras in the country.
The smart cameras will be monitored by the Joint Operation Centre, which opened in Georgia’s capital Tbilisi on October 4, 2016.
Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs said it was crucial for local municipalities to be involved in the Safe City, Safe Region, Safe Country project, so all regions of Georgia were better protected.
Already staff of the Joint Operation Centre have met with high officials from the different municipalities of Georgia to teach them about the nationwide project and share the benefits of the new scheme.
