Dozens of prisoners pardoned in Easter celebration

Ninety five prisoners have been pardoned by the Georgian Government.
President Giorgi Margvelashvili signed a decree of pardon for the 95 prisoners as part of this year’s Easter celebrations.
The signed decree N17/04/01 stated the President had pardoned prisoners.
The Presidential decree has been sent to the Minister of Corrections and Legal Assistance of Georgia, who is responsible for its execution.
In December President Margvelashvili ordered the release of 288 prisoners as part of Christmas and New Year celebrations.
Fifty four prisoners have been pardoned.
Almost 300 prisoners serving time in Georgian prisons will walk free this afternoon.
About a hundred prisoners serving time behind bars will be released from prison in the latest Presidential pardon.
More than 80 people serving sentence in prisons were pardoned by the President Giorgi Margvelashvili for the New Year.
The ruling Georgian Dream party has announced a large-scale pardon. The amnesty is expected to cover 44 articles and individuals who committed crimes before December 11, 2020. The amnesty will not concern serious crime like murder and domestic violence. The bill offers several preconditions for the release of convicts who had damaged others' properties. The convicts will have to pay for the damage or they will need the consent of victims to be released.
The Georgian parliament passed an amnesty bill earlier today which covers about 70 criminal articles and concerns more than 10,000 individuals, including 1,500 prisoners.
