Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor of Tbilisi and the Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Thursday said “Abkhazia is Georgia and no one needs to be reminded of that”, in reference to the Russian-occupied region of the country, after a draft resolution of the European Parliament against the Georgian bill on transparency of foreign influence mentioned the region as a separate state.

Kaladze said statements made by “some MEPs” showed they were “driven by a narrow political interest”, in comments on the draft dated April 22.

Everyone knows very well that Abkhazia is Georgia and no one needs to be reminded of this, especially those people who pretend to be our friends. It can be seen from their statements that they have a narrow political interest”, he said.

The party Secretary General further stressed the “main goal” for the ruling team was to “strengthen the statehood and sovereignty” of the country.
