Georgian PM - EU accession “paramount foreign policy objective” for Gov’t, citizens

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Thursday said he was confident that “in the near future” Georgia would attain a “full membership of the European family”, in comments at  the opening session of the Conservative Political Action Conference, an annual event hosted this year in Budapest, Hungary.

The head of the Georgian Government told the event accession to the European Union stood as the “paramount foreign policy objective for Georgia and its people”.

I am confident that in the near future, Georgia will attain full membership in the European family. Together, we should make substantial contributions to fortifying the European Union and advancing a Europe founded on steadfast values.  May God grant us the strength and guidance to pursue this crucial endeavour", Kobakhidze said.

The PM is also scheduled to hold a meeting with the Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, the Government Administration said.

The Government head is accompanied by a delegation including Ilia Darchiashvili, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Levan Zhorzholiani, the Head of the Government Administration.
