Natural gas leak leads to explosion in fish market in Batumi

A natural gas leak caused an explosion at the fish market in Batumi early today. A car and a wall of the cafe near the market have been damaged.

The Emergency Management Service reports nobody has been injured.

Energy Ombudsman of Georgia Salome Vardiashvili has started studying the case.

The Energy Ombudsman’s Office has already asked Socar Georgia Gas for an explanation, which will study the reason for the explosion on the spot. It is important to find out whether Socar Georgia carried out mandatory safety monitoring and if any recommendations were given to improve safety norms”, said Vardiashvili.
