Georgian Health Minister Davit Sergeenko says there is no risk of a swine flu epidemic in the country.

“Although the flu infection level has increased recently, there is no reason to panic. There is no risk of an epidemic”, he stated earlier today, and added that pharmacies are well-stocked with the appropriate medications.

Antiviral medication Tamiflu will be free of charge for pregnant women and socially vulnerable groups. To receive medication free of charge, beneficiaries must visit municipal public health centres, added Sergeenko.

The decision was made as a result of an increased number of infected persons. Pregnant people have a higher chance of getting the virus.

The medicine will be available to the mentioned social groups starting tomorrow.

Currently, the H1N1 virus has caused the death of six people in Georgia this winter.

The symptoms of H1N1 virus are almost the same as the seasonal flu and may involve cough, fever, sore throat, body and headaches and fatigue.
