February 25, the day marking the Soviet invasion of Georgia, has become the beginning of the “persistent struggle” for the country’s independence, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said on Saturday.
In his social media post, Garibashvili stressed Georgia was owing its freedom to those who had sacrificed themselves to prove that "struggle always makes sense” and in the end “truth and dignity always win”.
Even today, the historical truth and the example of the heroes dedicated to their homeland lead us to new victories, to the unification and strengthening of the country", he added.
The Head of the Government emphasised it was “the most tragic event” in Georgia’s history, which took the lives of young cadets, soldiers and volunteers of the armed forces, as well as civilians, and noted that “the day changed the development of the country”.
