Marija Pejčinović Burić, the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, on Tuesday condemned the killing of a Georgian citizen by Russian occupying forces near a village adjacent to central Georgia’s occupied Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) region.
In a social media message, the official sent her condolences to the family and the Georgian authorities and called for release of the other Georgian national who was illegally detained in the incident.
“Saddened by the deadly shooting of a Georgian citizen by Russian officers close to the administrative boundary line of the Georgian region of Tskhinvali (South Ossetia). [...] Calling for the release of a second abducted”, Burić said.

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Monday called on the international community to make an “appropriate assessment and response” to the development.
The Georgian national was killed in “firearm shots” as the occupation forces attempted to illegally detain him in the occupied territory, the State Security Service of Georgia said.
