Cooperation in the field of law enforcement and the importance of further deepening future relations between Georgian and Spanish agencies were in focus of a meeting between Vakhtang Gomelauri, the Georgian Interior Minister and his Spanish counterpart Fernando Grande-Marlaska Gómez in Spain on Tuesday.
The Georgian Interior Ministry said the meeting, which involved a review of the role of police attaches in the development of law enforcement cooperation between the two countries, also involved María Gámez Gámez, the Director General of the Spanish Civil Guard.

The parties discussed recent successful joint operations against organised crime, with Maria Gámez Gámez stressing the importance of the Declaration of Partnership on establishment of an organised crime joint analysis team. The Civil Guard Director said the agreement had further strengthened the cooperation between the parties.
The Spanish Interior Minister reaffirmed the country’s support for Georgia’s European Union integration process in the working session, with the Spanish interior officials expressing readiness to further deepen the bilateral relationship and share experiences in combating drug crime, illegal migration and more.

As part of his visit, Gomelauri awarded representatives of the Spanish Civil Guard with Certificates of Appreciation for “outstanding contribution” to the development of the existing cooperation.
The meetings were also attended by Shalva Bedoidze, the First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia.
