A Georgian man sought by Greek police for robbery as well as possible murder in the country was arrested on Sunday, with information about a wider group led by the 36-year-old emerging in Greek media.

Reportedly arrested while attempting to leave Greece with a fake passport, the man is wanted for his involvement in a March robbery in the town of Pikermi in southern Greece.

But the alleged perpetrator could also be connected to the murder of a 20-year-old young mother in Glyka Nera, an Athens suburb, last week, the police said.

News website enikos.gr said "in the effort to shed light on the cold-blooded murder [...] which has shocked the nation, security officers will examine his possible involvement in the case." The young woman was strangled in front of her husband and infant by robbers in the crime.

The 36-year-old man was arrested while attempting to cross Greece's border with Turkey.
