Coronavirus: Georgia reports record-breaking 196 new infections, most in coastal Adjara

Georgia has reported 196 new cases of the coronavirus earlier today, the highest figure since the country confirmed its first case of COVID-19 at the end of February.

145 of the 196 new patients are from the Adjara region of western Georgia. 

The cases were distributed in:

  • Adjara region - 145 cases
  • Tbilisi - 29 cases
  • Imereti region - 8 cases
  • Gori - 4 cases
  • Gardabani - 3 cases
  • Zugdidi, Samegrelo and Zemo Svaneti region - 2 cases
  • Guria region - 3 cases
  • Mtskheta-Mtianeti region - 1 case
  • Poti - 1 case

Georgia has had 2,758 cases of the coronavirus. 1,412 of the 2,758 patients have recovered, while 19 others have died.

As of today 1,327 individuals remain infected with COVID-19 in the country. 

Despite the recent surge in the infections, the country has no plans to declare a nationwide lockdown.

More than 490,000 people have been tested for the coronavirus in Georgia so far. 

More than 1,500 people have been tested for the coronavirus in September alone on a daily basis, director of Tbilisi Hospital of Infectious Diseases Marina Ezugbaia stated earlier today.
