Basilashvili also won four of his break points as opposed to one from his rival, and 37 receiving points to 23 for the 18th ranked opponent.

The 17th edition of the Dubai competition features high-ranking competition including Japan's Kei Nishikori, Gael Monfils of France and Marin Cilic of Croatia.

Basilashvili is showing a competitive form following his result in an ATP competition in Hamburg last year, where he became the first Georgian to win ATP World Tour tennis title.
