Georgia is today remembering the cadets who died in the battle of the Soviet Occupation of Georgia 95 years ago.
A photo exhibition featuring the February 1921 events was presented at Georgia’s Parliament today to honour the cadets who died during the month-long clash.
The Red Army invasion of Georgia took place from February 15 to March 17, 1921, and was a military campaign by the Soviet Russian Red Army which aimed to overthrow the Georgian government and install the Bolshevik regime in the country.
During this time 118 Georgian cadets lost their lives while fighting in a battle to retain Georgia’s independence.
"Today we celebrate the strength of Georgia’s soul, which has strengthened and retained our country throughout so many centuries,” said an exhibition guest today.
The Georgian cadets won the battle at Tabakhmela village but ultimately the Red Army found another way to capital Tbilisi and eventually overthrew the government.
Georgian politicians attended the event today and said young generations should never forget the young cadets who gave their lives for the freedom of Georgia.
