Georgian Economy Minister Levan Davitashvili on Friday attended the presentation of the new Boeing 767-300 aircraft of the national flag carrier, Georgian Airways, the Ministry said.

Tamaz Gaiashvili, the President of Georgian Airlines Group, presented the main features of the airliner and the company’s plans to operate flights to cities in China, Thailand and India.

The Ministry said Davitashvili highlighted the post-pandemic growth of the domestic airline sector and emphasised the need for direct connections with “various economic centres” and the significance of a wide-body passenger jet like the 767-300 being used for the first time in the history of Georgian airline industry.

The Minister also noted the aircraft’s capability of operating in continuous 12-hour flights as its “another great advantage”.

In other comments at the event, Davitashvili pointed out the importance of leveraging liberal visa agreements with other countries for the benefit of the tourism and air cargo transportation sectors.

The Ministry has also mentioned data from the Civil Aviation Agency of Georgia showed an estimated 13,600 flights scheduled during this year's summer navigation season.

The majority of flights - 2,480 services - will be between Georgia and Europe, accounting for 18 percent of all planned connections to and from the country.
