Georgian Public Defender highlights “important role” of persons with disabilities in society

Levan Ioseliani, the Georgian Public Defender, on Friday issued a statement marking the annual Day of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities by saying it aimed to recognise the “important role” of persons with disabilities in society.

It also said the date reminded the public that the state was “responsible for creating equal opportunities for all”, “eliminate the barriers and inequalities that persons with disabilities face every day” and “take all possible measures to create an inclusive and equal environment”. 

The Public Defender also said his office was “constantly studying” the situation with rights of persons with disabilities in Georgia and had published two special reports within his mandate, developed with the support of the United Nations Development Programme and the European Union and focusing on the importance of providing quality and continuous inclusive education. 

- Monitoring of inclusive education in higher educational institutions; 

- Monitoring report on resource schools;
