Georgian Interior Ministry launches investigation after assault on civil activist

The Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs on Tuesday told local media it had launched an investigation after a group of individuals physically assaulted Zuka Berdzenishvili, the member of the civil movement Shame, earlier today.

Berdzenishvili said on social media he had been attacked near his home and added he was looking to obtain surveillance recordings from nearby cameras to identify the assailants.

The activist was transferred to a clinic in the country's capital Tbilisi for medical examinations and nose surgery.

The Ministry said the investigation had been launched on charges of “group violence“.
