Georgian PM, EUMM Head review situation in Russian-occupied territories

The “difficult” security, human rights and humanitarian situation in the Russian-occupied regions of Georgia was discussed on Thursday in a meeting between the Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and Bettina Patricia Boughani, the newly appointed Head of the European Union Monitoring Mission.
The meeting highlighted the “crucial” role of the Mission in terms of implementation of the August 2008 ceasefire agreement that ended the war between Russia and Georgia, as well as peaceful resolution of the conflict and prevention of escalation, the Government Administration said.
Kobakhidze noted it was “important to use all available tools” to ensure access for the Mission in accordance with its mandate, and further vowed his Government was “ready to firmly continue cooperation” with the EU body, the only international mechanism on the ground.
The Prime Minister also welcomed the extension of the Mission's mandate until December 2024.
The delegation of the European Union’s Political and Security Committee, who are on an official visit to Georgia, on Thursday visited the central Georgian village of Khurvaleti to observe the administrative line separating the Russian-occupied Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) region from the rest of the country, the EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia said.
The security, human rights and humanitarian situation in Georgia’s Russian-occupied regions were reviewed at an introductory meeting between Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili and the newly appointed Head of the European Union Monitoring Mission in Georgia Bettina Patricia Boughani.

The ongoing political processes in Georgia, the security challenges in the country and the integration into the European Union were discussed on Wednesday by Maka Botchorishvili, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s EU Integration Committee, Givi Mikanadze, the Chair of the Education, Science and Youth Affairs Committee and the ambassadors of the Political and Security Committee of the Council of the EU.
