The Prosecutor's Office of Georgia has filed charges against one individual for physical and sexual violence, coercion and stealing of personal documents in a case qualified as gender discrimination.
The state body announced on Monday an investigation by the Interior Ministry had established the accused had stolen the victim’s passport and physically abused her. Physical coercion, abuse “on the grounds of jealousy” and gender-based discrimination were also identified in the case.
The offender had also threatened to reveal information about the victim’s personal life and coerced her into sex with him, the Prosecutor’s Office noted.
The crime is punishable by up to five years in prison.
