Police officer Soso Gabriadze, who was detained for shooting and killing a woman accidentally on April 20 in Tbilisi, will face more serious charges.
The Georgian Chief Prosecutor’s Office says that while drunk, Gabriadze fired off a Viking pistol several times from his balcony on Sunday evening into the building next door.
One of the bullets hit the woman identified as T.A. in the head, and she passed away from her injuries.
13 bullets and the Viking pistol were seized from the police officer’s house… Forensics been scheduled to determine the distance from which the pistol was shot. Several individuals were questioned as witnesses. The investigation has revealed that at the moment of shooting the police officer was alone in his apartment”, said the Prosecutor’s Office earlier today.
Tsotne Tsereteli, the lawyer of Soso Gabriadze, said that the police officer did not intend to kill anyone.
We don’t agree with the accusation, there was no intention in the action of this person. The accusation reads that in the current situation, when a state of emergency was declared in the country and the vast majority of the population are staying home, during the shooting of a pistol it was possible for someone to die… He did not say a word at the time of filing the charge. A huge tragedy has happened”, Tsereteli told the media earlier today.
The crime is punishable from seven to 15 years of imprisonment.
Tbilisi City Court has sent female investigator Mariana Choloiani to detention for exerting pressure on Luka Siradze, 15, who died at M. Iashvili Children’s Central Hospital earlier this week.
Yet another police officer has been accused of power abuse against a protester during the June 20 - 21 protest held near the parliament of Georgia. The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia reports that the police officer has been accused of physical violence towards a person that had already been arrested.
One of the men accused of fabricating the crime scene of the death of Buta Robakidze in November 2004 has pled guilty and named his accomplices. At today’s court hearing Zura (Zaza) Bakradze said the weapon and ammunition that was put in Robakidze’s car were brought from police stations.
A man who is suspected of killing two policemen in Borjomi and wounding two others in two separate shooting in Tbilisi was arrested early this morning and is facing 16 to 20 years of imprisonment or lifetime custody.

Police have detained a clergyman for the attempted premeditate murder of another clergyman and the illegal purchase, storage and possession of firearms at the Kintsvisi Monastery in Georgia’s eastern Shida Kartli region.
