Policeman detained for abuse of power at Tbilisi rally sent to pre-trial detention

Employee of the Special Tasks Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Levan Imerlishvili, who was detained yesterday for possible abuse of power during the rally dispersal on Rustaveli Avenue on June 20, has been sent to pre-trial detention.
Tbilisi City Court denied his lawyer’s motion to set bail.
The detainee has opted to use his right to silence.
A video released by the Georgian Chief Prosecutor’s Office depicts how the detainee shot rubber bullets at demonstrators.
Two law enforcers have been charged so far for abuse of power by police during the rally, while 12 demonstrators have been charged with violence against law enforcers on the same day.
Three individuals have been detained for group violence against police during the June 20 rally, the Georgian Interior Ministry has reported.“As of now 12 have been charged with organising and participating in group violence during the rally, including opposition member Nika Melia,” the ministry spokesperson stated earlier today.
One more special forces employee has been detained for "abuse of power" during the dispersal of the Tbilisi protests on June 20-21. The Georgian Chief Prosecutor’s Office, which is investigating possible abuse of power by law enforcers, reported that the officer injured two demonstrators.
The Georgian Interior Ministry said four people have been detained for participating in group violence during the clash of June 20 in front of the parliament of Georgia. Police say that the four other individuals, who participated in the group violence in front of the parliament, attacked police officers and resisted arrest.
The Georgian Chief Prosecutor’s Office says that 170 people have been interrogated during an investigation looking into the possible use of excessive force during the June 20 rally dispersal in central Tbilisi.
The Georgian Interior Minister Giorgi Gakharia was questioned at the Prosecutor’s Office earlier today over the June 20-21 developments in front of the parliament in Tbilisi. Minister Gakharia spoke with journalists after the questioning and said that now it is important for the investigation to identify the organisers who triggered “an organised and violent raid” on the parliament building.
