Russian helicopters flew over several village of Gori municipality today, in eastern Georgia, near the occupation line between Georgia and its occupied Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) region.

The Georgian State Security Service (SSS) has immediately responded to the issue and said that such incidents create threats to security on the ground.

The SSS reported that the hotline has been activated regarding the issue and that the European Union Monitoring Mission has been provided with information.

The Russians helicopters were allegedly flying from Tskhinvali to the Akhalgori occupied area.

Russia occupied 20 per cent of Georgian territories during the Russia-Georgia 2008 war.

Only Russia, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Nauru and Syria recognise the Georgian regions of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali as independent republics.

The rest of the international community is unanimous in that the regions are occupied by Russia.
