NATO-Georgia commission praised democratic reforms in Georgia

The allies pointed out that Georgia has reached a substantial qualitative progress in the terms for fulfillment of the goals of ANP.

NATO-Georgia commission praised the democratic reforms implemented by Georgia under the fifth cycle of the annual national program 2013 (ANP).

The commission meeting was held in Brussels at the NATO headquarters and was attended by the ambassadors. Georgia was represented at the meeting by the State Minister on European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, Aleqsi Petriashvili and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, David Zalkaliani. The parties discussed the performance of the 2013 ANP and Georgian-Russian relations.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the allies pointed out that Georgia has reached a substantial qualitative progress in the terms for fulfillment of the goals of ANP that further bridges Georgias gap for Alliance membership.

The permanent representatives to NATO also highlighted that the fair and democratic elections held in Georgia this year, clearly demonstrated the progress reached by the country on its way towards democratization and political maturity of the Georgian society. The allies underlined that they support the Georgian governments pragmatic approach and a constructive steps to normalize relations with Russia. NATO Permanent Representatives of the member states and Secretary General reiterated unwavering support of the Alliance for Georgias territorial integrity and sovereignty.

It was noted at the meeting that NATO remains committed to the decision of the Bucharest Summit and Georgia will join the Alliance. The allies also expressed their appreciation for the contribution made by Georgia to the Euro-Atlantic security.

Also, Aleqsi Petriashvili and David Zalkaliani met with NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rassmusen. The parties discussed Georgias integration to NATO and future plans in this regard, Georgian-Russian relations, and the ongoing democratic reforms in Georgia.
